About Word Unscrambler

A free, curated tool for word-game players and language learners

Our purpose

Word Unscrambler exists to help people get more out of word games and language study. Whether you are stuck on a Scrabble rack, working through a Wordle puzzle, or simply trying to expand your vocabulary, the tool takes any jumbled set of letters and returns every valid English word that can be formed from them — organised by length so the most useful answers surface first.

We built this as a genuinely useful reference, not a content farm. Every section of the site — the tool itself, the strategy guides, the FAQ, and the Word of the Day — is written and maintained by people who play and care about word games.

Our dictionary & accuracy

The word list is curated from established English-language references and covers common words from two to fifteen letters. We deliberately favour everyday, recognisable vocabulary over obscure or archaic entries so that the results are practical for real games and real learning.

For competitive play, no general dictionary is a substitute for an official word list. North American Scrabble uses the NASPA Word List (NWL), international play uses Collins Scrabble Words (CSW), and these differ from one another and from a standard dictionary. We recommend verifying any contested word against the official list for your specific game.

Ongoing curation

Language changes, and so does this tool. We review the dictionary periodically to add valid entries that are missing, remove errors, and refine the results. The Word of the Day feature is updated every day with a new curated word and definition, and our strategy guides are revised as new games and formats become popular.

If you spot a word that should be included or an entry that looks wrong, we encourage you to treat the tool as a starting point and cross-check against an authoritative source — and to let that feedback shape how you use the results.

Privacy & fair use

The letters you enter are processed in your browser in real time and are not stored or linked to your identity. No account is required, and we do not build a search profile. The service is supported by clearly labelled advertising, which is kept separate from the results.

We believe in fair play. The unscrambler is an excellent study and practice aid for solo learning, but using external tools during competitive or ranked play against other people is almost always against the rules. We ask that you use the tool to learn and improve — and play on your own when it counts.
